Doing the Work.. What?!!! Are You Crazy?

Having an (almost) teenage daughter is a great challenge.  It is also a tremendous opportunity to practice what we preach.

Case in point-> Homework.  Homework is a drag. You just practice the same old thing over and over and over again.  But how often have you caught yourself telling your kid that practice makes perfect or that working hard at something is the only way they’ll get better at it.

I am GUILTY!  I say those things to my poor kid all the time.  And, this week– I remembered why it is so important to continuously work at my craft/my profession– not just so I can keep up-but so I can thrive.  It does take effort. It does take time.  OMG!- It takes work.

I’ve written three or four long documents this week and asked colleagues to help proof them because my grammar skills are not my strong point. (Hence, the disclaimer on my blog that I write like I am speaking to you while we’re having coffee.)  Complacency is a sneaky little career killer and I have become complacent with my grammar and writing skills. Time to double back/review/practice.

I am going to have to do the work to refresh my skillset.   I’ll let you know how it goes!
